Child and Adolescent Therapy

BRAINS offers therapeutic services designed specifically for children, adolescents, and young adults. We recognize the unique needs and abilities of younger clients, who can have difficulty putting their thoughts and feelings into words and require therapists who understand how to effectively help them meet their emotional and developmental needs.

Treatment of younger clients can take on different forms, from meeting individually with the child to meeting with the family or parents. Therapy can also involve the use of various strategies, including: art or play therapy, which relies on the use of art/play to gain a greater understanding of the child’s emotions; role play and activities to practice specific skills; and adapting other strategies in ways that are hands-on and engaging to children. Adolescents often engage in more traditional “talk therapy,” although special techniques might be used to make it easier for the adolescent to express themselves and relate to the therapist.

We believe it is important not only to engage parents and caretakers in the treatment process to provide the most effective care for children, but also to understand other important pieces of the child’s treatment. Our clinicians are available to help coordinate services with schools, physicians, psychiatrists, and other professionals involved in the child’s care and daily life.
