BRAINS offers groups ongoing throughout the year, some are time limited while others are open groups. Please contact BRAINS for current group/seminar offerings.

Groups for Children

Ages 2-3: Developmental Interaction & Awareness
Ages 4-5: Social Communication and Awareness

These groups are offered by Carrie Zinser, LMSW and are for preschoolers and parents to learn through play and interactional activity. Saturdays.

Ages 7+ with Parent: Connections Class

Offered by Rene' Manker, PT and designed to help children with connecting body and brain. Wednesday evenings.

Ages 10+: Gymnastics for the Brain

This is a 6 week class offered by Jan Dewey, MA, LPC designed to exercise brain and body and optimize learning. Saturdays.

Ages 8-12: Dealing with Emotions

This is a 4 week class offered by Andrea Rotzien, Ph.D. (girls group), Brad Bridges, LMSW (boys group) and Rebeca Conklin, MA intern (parents group) designed to help children and parents learn about emotion management and increase coping skills. This class will be offered in several 4 week cycles throughout the year. Thursday evenings.

Adolescent and Young Adult Groups

Ages 13-16: Dealing with Emotions

Ages 13-17 Social Awareness Group for Males
Ages 17+: Social Awareness Group for Males

These are a process oriented groups offered by Tom Denczak, LMSW, assisting young men with high functioning ASD’s to continue their progression toward adulthood. The group offers opportunities to improve interpersonal relationships, increase understanding of other's thoughts and feelings, handle stressful situations and reduce conflicts, and decrease anxiety. Alternate Tuesdays.

Surviving High School for Females
Surviving High School for Males

The groups for females are offered by Stephanie Silverman, MA, LLP and the male group is offered by Brad Bridges, LMSW. These groups are designed to help students who have difficulty meeting their academic potential, struggle to find motivation for school, are distracted from school work by family or social issues, and are frequently truant or in trouble at school. Alternate Wednesdays.

Parenting Stress Support Group

Offered by Stephanie Silverman MA LLP. Designed for couples who are parenting children with emotional or social difficulties. Alternate Mondays.

A Space for Me

Offered by Stephanie Silverman, MA LLP. For women considering or facing separation/divorce or difficult family situations. Alternate Mondays.

Parents of teens/young adults with ASD

Offered by Tom Denczak, LMSW. For parents with ASD children looking for support. 2nd Saturday of each month.

Shapedown Family Class

Offered by Kris Henderson, MA, LPC. This is a weight managment program for children and teens and their parents. This is a 10 week class. Tuesday evenings.

Teens or Adults: Think Thin

Offered by Kris Henderson, MA LPC. In this class, individuals will learn to resolve social and psychological issues that impede weight loss, increase motivation, overcome emotional eating and identify self-defeating thoughts. Six week class. Tuesday mornings or Saturday mornings.

Siblings: Coping with Family Stress

Offered by My Lien, Ph.D. For kids/teens of all ages who have siblings with disabilities or are struggling with their role in the family due to divorce/death, remarriage or adoption. Alternate Mondays.

Parent Information Group

Speakers for this group will vary depending on expertise needed. Typical topics include: IEPs, special education law, developing organizational skills in children, etc. Alternate Wednesday evenings.
