What is BRAINS Summer Institute?

Designed to help children learn, maintain, and build new skills over the summer months. A special curriculum is tailored to the areas of concern and functioning level.

Facilitators are state certified educators or licensed professionals.

Groups are not more than 1:5 ratio, so each child receives direct attention and instruction.

What is covered?

Movement and Learning: How the body takes in information from the environment and understands it’s connection with the world is called sensory integration. Motor coordination and planning are how we function to accomplish tasks. Included are sensory and movement activities designed to increase the brain’s understanding of sensory input, increase fluency, and help the body and mind to be ready for new learning.

Communication: Being able to communicate feelings, ideas, and needs effectively is an important element of emotional and behavioral success. Activities will help build listening skills, auditory comprehension, memory, attention/focusing skills, ability to follow directions, and interpersonal conversational skills.

Social Awareness and Social Skills: Learning to live with others is critical. Being able to follow directions, be aware of danger in the environment, building friendship skills and frustration tolerance are skills taught within the group context of Summer Institute.

Take-Home Messages for Parents: At the end of each 3-hour session, parents and guardians are invited to hear about the topics covered and how to apply these skills at home or school.

Who can participate?

No formal diagnosis is needed. The program is currently designed for any child aged 4 through 17. Children will be grouped according to age and functioning level.
