Speech Therapy

Speech and language therapy helps people with developmental speech and language delays, autism, genetic disorders, social language disorders, cerebral palsy, neurological disorders, and other medically-related diagnoses.

At BRAINS, speech therapy is highly individualized and evidence-based to promote optimum growth. Our speech-language pathologists will work to diagnose communication deficits, ensuring appropriate referrals are made as necessary. Unique to BRAINS is our in-house multidisciplinary team, which includes neuropsychologists, social workers, and occupational therapists, who are all available to assist with differentially assessing and making accurate diagnoses. Personalized treatment plans with achievable goals are designed in coordination with families and other care team members to ensure that what is being targeted is developmentally appropriate and relevant to each client. There is no one size fits all to any element of our diagnostic process or service delivery.

Younger clients will engage in play-based therapy techniques that allow for naturalistic, salient communication opportunities, which are more likely to generalize to the home environment. Parents are provided with strategies, support, and coaching to help enhance their child’s language across all contexts. Older children and teens work on their specific goal areas by engaging in activities based on their personal preferences and areas of interest. The purpose of this is that they then buy into the therapeutic process much more readily, resulting in more significant gains and generalization of skills outside the therapeutic environment.

The speech-language pathologists at BRAINS also work with adults with a multitude of communication impairments. From stroke survivors to people who stutter to those looking for help with memory and organization, speech therapy can help. Many people don’t realize that speech-language pathologists are trained to work with cognition as well as communication. This means we can address word-finding challenges, memory difficulties, executive functioning, and more!
