Renee is joining BRAINS after working in the child welfare system of Michigan for over twenty years. She has spent the majority of her therapeutic career working within residential treatment for children with extreme behaviors which have prevented them from maintaining family living environments. Renee works with young children, adolescents, as well as parents and families. Renee has worked with mood disorders such as anxiety and depression and has addressed issues surrounding sexual abuse, sexual acting out, other traumatic events, and other behavioral issues. In her career, Renee has worked closely with foster and adoptive parents and children addressing attachment related concerns. Renee has training in play therapy, TF-CBT, and Theraplay. Renee enjoys working with individuals, groups, families, and is available for parent consultation.
Renee calls West Michigan home and lives with her husband and five children in the greater Grand Rapids area. She has many interests and enjoys being active with her family. She enjoys having the beautiful walking path around the lake for sessions with children or teens who may find this more relaxing than sitting in talk therapy. Renee uses play therapy, art, sand tray, and various other methods to ensure the client find therapy to be effective in meeting treatment goals.
