Tom has been working with children and families for over twenty years in a variety of capacities. Tom earned his Bachelors of Social Work form Grand Valley State University and his Masters of Clinical Social Work from Western Michigan University. Prior to earning his Bachelors and Masters degrees, Tom gained direct experience in his work through the court system, schools, residential treatment centers, and the community mental health system. Tom has been providing clinical services since 1999 to adolescents and their families in the West Michigan area, specializing in behavioral and learning difficulties, autistic spectrum disorders, depression, anxiety, and substance abuse. Tom understands the present day challenges of raising children and actively works within his practice to educate parents and children to better understand the unique obstacles that are preventing them from achieving more productive patterns of communication and interaction. Tom is proficient in both individual and group work as well as in a number of therapeutic milieus. Tom is committed to remaining current with regard to continuing advancements in the understanding of adolescents and children development and incorporating this understanding into his practice. Tom is also dedicated to strategic planning and intervention planning to help children and teens develop into successfully functioning adults.
