Biography
T.C. is a full licensed clinical social worker, who has clinical experience working with children, adolescents, young adults, and their families in individual, family, and group therapy. He joined BRAINS in 2022 and is currently works as an Outpatient Therapist on the counseling team. T.C. not only works with those struggling with mood disorders, such as anxiety and depression, he also is nationally certified in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and is trained in Dialectal Behavioral Therapy for Adolescents (DBT-A) and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). His areas of practice include, but are not limited to: sexual and physical abuse, neglect, other types of trauma, anxiety, depression, behavioral issues, school issues, family conflict, anger management, school Issues, self-harming, suicidal ideation, and severe forms of emotional, interpersonal, cognitive, and self-dysregulation. He works with individuals, families, and groups and is available for parent consultation. Prior to joining BRAINS, T.C. worked in family centered home-based therapy, autism evaluation, trauma assessment and working with post adoptive families. TC is also currently on the faculty for MSU School of Social Work.
T.C. grew up in the Metro Detroit area, however, he has lived in West Michigan for most of the last 20 years. He lives in Grand Rapids with his wife and their cat. He has a variety of interests and hobbies, including comic books, board games, being on the water, whether it is swimming, paddle boarding, or kayaking; as well as woodworking, and working in his garden.
T.C. prioritizes creating an environment for clients feel comfortable and emotionally safe and that their thoughts and feelings are validated so they can begin the challenging work of healing and improving themselves. He has experience working with experiential therapies such as, play therapy, superhero therapy, as well as incorporating art, mindfulness, and other activities into his sessions.
