Founded in 2007, BRAINS was one of the first multidisciplinary, privately owned practices in Grand Rapids. Based upon the philosophy that brain, body, and real-life expectations are intertwined and need to be addressed simultaneously, our emphasis on neuropsychology is unique.

Not limited by age, diagnosis, or functioning level, we are open to anyone facing developmental, behavioral, learning, relational, or emotional challenges.

Our Mission: To Maximize Potential

Our mission, “To Maximize Potential,” has been central to BRAINS and how we engage with every one of the nearly 40,000 individuals who have come to us through these past 18 years.

Our core values explain how we approach service, connect with our clients, address complexity, and run the business:

  • Compassionate Care: empathetic, understanding, and sensitive to the unique needs as we connect with those in our care, on our team, and in the community.
  • Collaborative Teamwork: working together using skills across various disciplines to broaden the opportunities for care.

BRAINS is a group of licensed providers in neuropsychology, psychology, social work, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and applied behavior analysis. Perhaps best known for comprehensive neuropsychological and psychological assessments and specialized diagnostic evaluations, our clinical team members are all trained to understand people and families from a holistic, complex perspective.

Each client – each family – is understood, and treatment plans are co-created to address dynamics specific to each circumstance and range of symptoms.

More Than Caring for Clients

But BRAINS is more than caring for client by client.

Our mission to serve Michigan includes reaching 68 counties, including 238 cities, across both the lower and upper peninsulas. When clients live too far away to participate in treatment at our physical location, we consult and collaborate with providers, providing expertise and resources, as well as offering in-service trainings. We also offer training to mentor pre- and post-doctoral neuropsychologists, master’s level therapists, and undergraduate college students. We participate with most major insurance companies and have specialized contracts with multiple county’s community mental health agencies and courts in Michigan to provide services to those with Medicaid, who are underinsured or who are in need of legal evaluation.

With this always in mind, at BRAINS, we are dedicated to:

  • Best Outcomes: diligent, constant, and engaged, being attentive to support our patients, community, and each other-pursuing the best outcomes for all involved.
  • Achieving High Standards: seek out knowledge and training, apply research and innovation in the way we conceptualize cases, and use this to inform options for treatment.

BRAINS values the highest standards, which leads to the best possible outcomes for all involved.

We are founded on principles of excellence and high standards. Accredited by the Commission for Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) since 2008, BRAINS continuously meets the highest standards for clinical practice and administrative oversight. CARF accreditation is a huge accomplishment for a company this size, requiring the commitment of every staff member to maintain the highest level of integrity.
