Biography

Dr. Kassie Shellabarger (“she series” pronouns) joined BRAINS as a post-doctoral resident in neuropsychology in 2024. Dr. Shellabarger completed her Ph.D. in School Psychology with a specialization in neuropsychology and Autism Spectrum Disorders at Ball State University. During her graduate education, Dr. Shellabarger received training in culturally sensitive psychological, psychoeducational, and neuropsychological assessments across the lifespan. She spent three years working in the school system conducting psychoeducational evaluations to determine special education placement as well as developing and implementing evidence-based academic and behavioral interventions. Given her experience in the school setting, Dr. Shellabarger utilizes her knowledge of educational policy and procedures to advocate for pediatric patients and their families. Additionally, Dr. Shellabarger spent a year working in a private practice setting conducting neuropsychological evaluations with individuals of all ages. She also spent a year working in a Federally Qualified Health Center where she conducted autism assessments and implemented AutPlay therapy with children on the spectrum. Dr. Shellabarger completed her internship at Easterseals Rehabilitation Center where she had the opportunity to conduct psychological and developmental assessments as well as implement therapeutic treatment to individuals with various presenting concerns through individual therapy, Family Interaction Therapy, and social-emotional and social skills groups.

Dr. Shellabarger is excited to finally get to live out her dream of being a psychologist, supporting patients and their families. At BRAINS, she looks forward to providing collaborative and therapeutic neuropsychological services. Although specializing in neurodevelopmental disorders, particularly Autism Spectrum Disorders and ADHD, Dr. Shellabarger’s clinical interests include traumatic brain injuries, genetic conditions, seizure disorders, memory disorders, movement disorders, and other medically-complex conditions across the lifespan.

Dr. Shellabarger recently moved to Michigan from Indiana, so she is especially eager to explore Michigan and all that it has to offer. In her spare time, she enjoys listening to music, traveling, and exploring new places, particularly finding hidden gems and local food and coffee spots. Dr. Shellabarger also enjoys spending time with friends and family. Most of all, she loves spending time with her dog, Dax, and finding new places for them to hike. During the warmer months, Dr. Shellabarger often ventures to the lakeside to relax at the beach.
