Dr. Jesse Piehl is a licensed psychologist whose primary area of interest is working in pediatric neuropsychology, although he has experience and interest in working with individuals of all ages. Dr. Piehl was born and raised in Waverly, Iowa. After attending the University of Wisconsin-Stout, where he studied psychology and played basketball, he continued his education at Ball State University to study school psychology. While initially planning to spend his career working in the schools, he developed an intense interest in neuropsychology and chose that as his career path.
During his training at Ball State, he spent three years working in the school system conducting evaluations for special education placement and working within the Response to Intervention framework. He also spent a year working in the VA Northern Indiana Health Care System performing neuropsychological evaluations with veterans. During his final two years on campus, Dr. Piehl acted as the associate director of the Ball State Neuropsychology Lab conducting neuropsychological evaluations for clients of all ages.
Dr. Piehl has also presented research at multiple regional and national conferences on various areas of neuropsychological functioning, most notably with regards to executive functioning. His dissertation also examined the relationship between cognitive and executive functioning in pediatric populations. Additionally, Dr. Piehl is interested in professional service and has been involved in leadership positions for professional organizations at the local and national level, including the American Psychological Association’s student organizations for neuropsychology and school psychology. He has recently helped in founding the student organization for the American Board of Pediatric Neuropsychology. Outside of professional service, he has volunteered his time for Special Olympics, student tutoring, and various youth basketball camps.
As a child, Dr. Piehl loved sports and dreamed of playing professional basketball. Despite being 7’1”, that dream never took him beyond playing in college. He continues to love watching and playing sports to this day. He is a die-hard fan of the Green Bay Packers and University of Wisconsin. He also enjoys listening to music, traveling, being outside, and spending time with family and friends.
